The Maxx is one of my favourite New Beat projects (The other is Amnesia). The original of ‘Acid And House Music’ has synths horrible for today’s listener. It has this commercial, penetrating feeling which I didn’t really like.
So instead I stressed the bass loop with this ‘I’m a disco dancer’ sound (Maybe Christopher Just was inspired by this track.).
Now you’ll find as well a reverbed just-beat intro and outro from another ‘The Maxx’ track for the DJ in you.
With monotone loops I generally feel good to use phasing, as you can follow in the second third before we get up to the 909 snare hits. Finally I changed the melody of the bass to create something that reminds me of ‘Eric Prydz – 123′.
Who really would still play this song? Even after it was remixed over and over, worse and worst again. Myself is not ashamed enough to keep my fingers off this song. But at least – I guess – an edit for the dj of the original 12“ is basic and modest.
In fact I kept a focus on the percussive drive of the breakbeat/snare combo and the flowin’ synth parts. And – as usual – I skipped the most of the vocals. It became nice, but quick for a mix, so for the dj in you!
Lying long & lonely on my hard disc for years I finally had trouble to find the proper sound, as my record was really bad. Fishing from a whole pond of version in the net I just found a 192 kbps version and I have no clue if this is from vinyl or CD as it anyway lost quality by compression. We’ve got a quirky bastard of MP3-compression and my extraordinary re-mastering skills.
;-P
However the available downloads are gone…
I have a pretty full backstock, but anyways – just by chance – I’ve chosen ‚Nexus 21 – Life Keeps Movin’ as a representative 1st timer.
Until today I thought this is an underestimated Kevin Saunderson record, which lacks the pop-appeal of the Inner City hits. Surprisingly it turned out: Nexus 21 is a former Altern8 project. And at least Kevin did some remixes on a re-release 12″ on KMS. However or even more it is more flowing in a mixed set. And generally my edits will try to serve the DJ’s demands, so I kicked out the badly sung chorus, kept the refrain, extended the acid elements, built some climax and did some classic beat juggle editing.
Usually I try some re-mastering as I often got the original from vinyl (that’s soooo 80ies!!!).
In fact there was no need but stereo expanding and reducing the high peaks for you.
Well, that’s it. The track (formerly a song, :-]) didn’t become fresh, but rough as we can stand old school house today.
