The name refers to the book “Midnight’s Children” by the indian/pakistani author Salman Rushdie

While the label will focus on exclusive edits, this first release is a manifesto of sorts which gathers tried and tested edits along with previously unreleased material.

These edits have been (re)mastered for maximum listening and dancing pleasure.

There is a focus on out of print labels, artists no longer active, and generally obscure material. Changes in pitch and length are the most common on this release, with many edits fitting the 45RPM to 33RPM effect that our friends Front de Cadeaux call Supreme Rallentato.

To make things interesting, each track’s name contains clues as to the source material’s identity and further hints are given below. The name of source material is hidden not because we claim to have created those tracks, because we didn’t, but to highlight the editing process and to ensure the project’s longevity.

We also believe that by pointing you in the general direction you will make interesting discoveries along the way.

And the most obvious edit, Tropicarama, is given away for free.

1. By DJ Athome, the Sicilian Bear, 1/2 of Front de Cadeaux. Originally by a band with a number in its name and a member who rhymes with Global Village.

2. From a Belgian pioneer with many aliases, by label head Isar.

3. It began with a German composer called JSB, which inspired other Germans a few hundred years later before finally reaching Bangkok’s Sunju Hargun a few decades after that.

4. Worst Records / Positive Education hombre Antoine’s version of a tune which in fact was not made by people in the South of France.

5. The British entity known as auratekh, a certified trance expert, found a sun-drenched chamber.

6. José Acid of Portugal’s take on a popular B-side, with a dash of iconic Tuga samples for good measure.

7. Brittany’s René Danger revisits a whirly tune by gentlemen from the reel world.

8. Don’t be fooled by the underground overtones, this one is all about the overland.

9. Dresden’s extraordinary editor invites us to daydream with one of Frankfurt’s treasures, sadly gone too soon.

10. An imprint with a Shinto name, a feeling of elation.

11. Smells Like Millenial Spirit.

12. Not Optimus Prime. Extended.

13. Late 80′s spectral tape enhanced by Raven from Paris.

14. A slow and sweaty on an iconic belter, revisited in the Rave Cave.

Platform 23 returns with the reissue of songs from Canadian project, Vini Vidi Vici. With just one privately pressed mini-album in 1989 that bridged the gap between the later years of New Wave and the early vestiges of House, the music included in this edited EP highlights a thriving Montreal scene in its heyday.

Included is [a digital bonus] remix by Berlin’s Sneaker DJ and he take on Club Stuff. When digging through the tapes a later, tougher demo of the track was unearthed and who better than to send to Sneaker for examination.

As an avid digger I stumbled over the original record while doing my usual online research on exotic electronic music from the 80s.
I found a decent copy to buy in the US as the record hardly left the American continent. A friend in NYC received it and and I picked it up last year during my Pan-American tour.
I did a proper vinyl rip with a HQ A-D converter and an edit during my summer holidays (the gift of the digital age). The sound is only slighlty pushed. However 250 cuts have been made in this 8 and a ½ minute monster of an edit.

This is my edit of a rare promo of a one-off German New Beat act on the
infamous Belgian BCM label.
Although the vinyl cut bears some distortion I ripped the vinyl through a
professional A-D converter to obtain the best possible sound. Also I only
limited some spikes to preserve the original dynamics.
I cut the cheesy vocals (the track is actually a cheapish cover version
– the one who fancies the vocals should buy the original). To disguise
the cuts was tiresome. The worst were apparent in the original already.
So I tried to disguise their flaws using delays and fades.
I extended the intro and outro just for a few seconds of DJ convenience.
I was further bringing the different rather chaotic, disparate themes
into a usual 4/8/16 grid etc. and pushed the vocal synth in the last
quarter by EQing. Enjoy this on the eclectic, clubby cosmic dancefloor!

So now the night is dark, parents are in bed, we can secretly take our walkman, put that mysterious black and blue tape inside, headphones on and press play. Boom, we’re instantly hypnotized by this wobbly and schizophrenic post-punk edit from the brilliant German producer SneakerDJ.
Already heard on Emotional Rescue, Bahnsteig 23 or Rat Life, he delivers here a power edit in pure EBM tradition, where saturated screams meets a hammer kick drum and weird synths, all dubbed and twisted by the German master… It takes us straight to an sweaty 80s club, raised fist on one side and warm beer on the other.

From Barcelona, Vinilette is a Dj and producer who isn’t afraid to pull a musical punch or two and she is in fighting form with her two offerings.
First up, the 1986 EBM stomper “God Save The King” by Son of Sam is revamped and reconstructed into a psychedelic rollercoaster of crashing cymbals, spiralling samples and bruising bars. The clock is being turned further back, this time Belgium’s new wave punk outfit Arbeid Adelt! are the source material with their 1987 track “Help (Me Ik Stik)” muscling up on a diet of raging rhythms and splintering guitar strings. The head honcho, Juanpablo, meets up with an old member of the family Dunkeltier (aka Dj Sneaker) to finish our journey. The pair travelling back to 1983 to Catalonia and the prog-jazz musings of Pegasus. “Perseguido por el Rayo” is tuned up and transformed into an electronic bomb. Addictive grooves and hooks are polished with beats getting a shot in the arm for a hauntingly sinister piece of disco deviance.

Pegasus, the flying horse god, child of Medusa who was foaled upon her death. The spawn of the God Poseidon who according to legend was tasked by Zeus to bring thunder and lightning to Mount Olympus.
Well Pegasus also brings thunder and lightning to the track Perseguido Por El Rayo.
Juanpablo & Dunkeltier’s edit brings 80s style big drums, toms and flange ridden hi hats to the fore before breaking down into an electro ridden synth groove which brings the fire to the dancefloor.
Wonky pads add a hint of drama while keeping the playful nature of the track well in dancefloor territory. The track is well in key with Madrid based Frigio Records left of centre dance music policy.
It’s starting to sound like summer is here, but beware, there is a storm brewing and it’s heading straight
for the dancefloor and it comes in the shape of Ecdisis Vol​.​1.
